How Long Should Your Resume Be? Length Guide for Students
Length rules aren't set in stone, but for students and freshers, one page is usually the right target. Here's when and how to keep or extend it.
One page for undergrads and most freshers
Recruiters spend only a few seconds per resume. One page forces you to prioritise what matters. If you're in 2nd/3rd year or a new grad with limited experience, one page is enough.
When two pages can work
Multiple internships, many strong projects, or 4+ years of experience can justify two pages. Never go to two pages with filler—every line should add value.
What to cut
- Generic objective statements.
- Hobbies and interests unless directly relevant.
- Old or low-relevance experiences.
- Repetitive or weak bullets—keep only the strongest.
Use a resume score tool to see if your content is strong enough; sometimes shortening and sharpening beats adding more.
