Skills Section on Resume: Hard vs Soft Skills for Placements

The skills section helps ATS and recruiters quickly see if you match the role. Balance hard (technical) and soft skills without turning it into a buzzword list.

Hard skills first

List programming languages, frameworks, databases, and tools. Group if needed: Languages: Java, Python. Web: React, Node.js. Tools: Git, Docker, Jira. Use terms from the job description.

Soft skills: show, don't just list

Instead of a long list of "team player", "leader", "communicator", demonstrate these in your bullet points (e.g. "Led a team of 4 in a hackathon"). One short line of 2–3 soft skills is enough if you want to include them.

Keep it relevant

Remove skills you can't discuss in an interview. Add skills you're actively learning if they're relevant. A resume analyzer can suggest missing skills for your target role.
